Collect Contact Information for a Defined Purpose

A convenient field is not always a necessary field.

Independent educational journal · October 7, 2026

A useful distinction

A registration or contact list can grow beyond what the activity needs. Clear purpose helps decide what information to collect, who can use it and how long it is needed. This journal itself introduces no registration or supporter database.

Put it into practice

List each proposed field and the task it serves. Remove fields with no defined purpose, and use the organisation’s applicable privacy process before collecting real information. A planning worksheet should not become a public file containing participants’ private contact details.
