A useful distinction
Several people may contribute to a task while one person coordinates the next step. Without a clear description, a committee can assume that someone else is handling it. Responsibility also depends on the authority and time the person has actually accepted.
Put it into practice
Record the task, agreed owner, due date and required approval. Confirm the assignment with the person concerned. Keep decisions involving money, contracts or sensitive information within the organisation’s applicable process rather than treating a casual planning note as authorisation.
