Explain the work

Communicate Progress Without Creating Pressure

An update can inform without demanding a response.

A useful distinction

A community update can describe completed work, current needs and ways to ask questions. It should not imply that a person’s standing in the community depends on contributing. A warm tone is compatible with giving readers a real choice.

Put it into practice

Write the information first and keep any invitation clear and optional. Avoid invented deadlines, guilt-based personal targeting or claims that everyone else has already given. Review the draft from the perspective of someone who cannot participate and should still feel respected.
